EP. 17 Decision Making

In the latest episode of the Mentored Podcast, hosts Martin and Carson tackle one of the most essential skills in leadership: decision-making. They delve deep into what separates effective leaders from the rest when it comes to making crucial decisions.

Martin and Carson start by debunking the myth that there’s some “magic” formula to making good decisions. They emphasize that decision-making is a skill that can be developed with practice and awareness.

A significant part of the discussion focuses on the common pitfalls leaders face, such as procrastination. Some leaders put off making decisions, which can stall progress and hinder team morale. The hosts discuss why this happens and how to overcome it.

Perspective is crucial in decision-making, and Martin and Carson explain why leaders often struggle to make sound decisions when they’re too close to the situation. They offer practical advice on gaining the necessary perspective to make better choices.

The dangers of impulsive decision-making are also highlighted. In today’s fast-paced world, many leaders make decisions on the fly, leading to inconsistency and confusion. Martin and Carson provide strategies to balance quick decision-making with thoughtful deliberation.

The conversation then shifts to the temptation leaders face to make decisions based on short-term benefits. Martin and Carson explore what drives this behaviour and the challenges leaders face in anticipating long-term consequences. They discuss how having a mentor can be invaluable in helping leaders make decisions that are beneficial in the long run.

Carson, often described as having an uncanny ability to “see around the corner,” shares his insights on how leaders can better anticipate future challenges and opportunities. At the ten-minute mark of the podcast, he shares six mentoring tips he gives to leaders on how to make better decisions.

Martin shares insights on various cultural-based decision-making as well as psychographics.

Ep.14 Finding A Deeper Sense Of Purpose: Mentored Podcast

In this profound episode of the Mentored Podcast, we explore the often unspoken yearning that dwells within the hearts of many accomplished leaders—the quest for a deeper sense of purpose. Despite their success, there lies an intrinsic desire for something more, a longing that transcends the boundaries of conventional achievements. Here, we uncover the power of mentorship in guiding leaders through this introspective journey.

The discussion begins with the invaluable practice of crafting a life mission statement. Such a declaration serves not merely as a reflection of one’s ambitions but as a beacon, illuminating the path to true fulfillment. It compels leaders to discern where their energy and focus ought to be channeled, ensuring that their actions are aligned with their deeper calling.

We then shift our focus to the wisdom that comes with age, particularly highlighting the introspective journeys of men and women in their 60+ years. At this stage of life, the search for meaning becomes increasingly paramount. Acknowledging one’s limitations emerges not as an admission of defeat but as a necessary step toward understanding and accepting the unique role one is meant to play in the grand tapestry of life.

Central to our discussion is the role of a mentor in this pivotal process. A mentor, seasoned by experience and guided by wisdom, knows that the most profound insights often arise in silence. By speaking less and listening more, they create a space where individuals can openly explore their longing for something greater—where they can articulate and pursue God’s calling for their lives.

In Memory of Martin

In Memory of Martin

Hello everyone, welcome to a special mini-episode of Mentored. I’m your host, Carson, and today, we have an episode that was hard to record and is very close to my heart. We’re here to honour the memory of a man who has made an indelible impact on our lives, our leadership journeys, and the world. Today, we remember my friend and cohost, Dr. Martin Sanders and share his sudden passing on January 8, 2024.

Dr. Sanders was not just a mentor to many; he was a catalyst for change and a visionary in the truest sense. As the founder and president of Global Leadership Inc. since 1995, he dedicated his life to nurturing leaders across the globe, fostering character growth, and sowing seeds of transformation in over 30 countries.

His role as Director of the former Alliance Theological Seminary doctoral program further showcased his commitment to leadership development. His wisdom, compassion, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross paths and study with him.

I remember once, during one of our many conversations, Martin said something that’s remained with me. He said, ‘Leadership is about being intentional. It’s about shaping character, not just skills.’ He lived and led by this principle, and it’s a sentiment that’s echoed throughout our Mentored podcast series.

So even though Martin is gone from us in this world,

As we remember Martin, we also look ahead, committed to carrying on his legacy. Mentored Podcast will continue and over the coming episodes, we’ll continue to delve into the principles that Martin held dear – character development, intentional growth, the soul of leaders. We will still be able to hear that unique voice as we share stories, anecdotes, and insights that help mentor leaders. In this way we get to reflect on the lessons he’s left us with.

Finally, I want to take a moment to say how much I appreciate that we were able to capture a year’s worth of episodes with Dr. Sanders on Mentored. His teachings, his wisdom, his laughter – they are with us, forever encapsulated in these episodes, and we hope they continue to guide and inspire you as they have us.

So, join us today as we remember, reflect, and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man and my close friend, who has now joined his beloved Dianna and is cheering us on from a heavenly vantage point. – Dr. Martin Sanders.”
